Will made a jaunt to NC over the weekend of April 15th to help out with some yard work at the Vaughn ranch in Winston-Salem, and to drive over stuff in Uwharrie National Forest with the Rodeo. Turns out the destruction started earlier than expected with some excitement on the yard work front.

This is the last shot of the Rodeo with it's "normal" tires. Just after taking this picture, I got in the truck and drove it to Independent 4x4 in Richmond VA for some new treads.

Ok, well, the plan was to drive to Independent 4x4. Instead I sat in traffic on 95 south for two hrs... Did I mention I don't like traffic?

Eventually I made it to Richmond, and got the tires mounted without much drama. There was a little rubbing on the front, but it wasn't too bad, and you have to admit, the truck looks a lot meaner now. I also got to see Matt's (the owner of Indy 4x4) monster truck of a Isuzu Trooper. It was a BEAST. Shots of it can be seen at www.independent4x.com. (I was in a rush to get to Winston at this point, so I didn't want to bust out the camera and take photos.)

Grandma took the Habitat destruction tour seriously - she pulled up maybe three hundred thousand grass plants while we focused on the Tree. What tree you ask? Read on!

Ok, so here's the REAL beginning of the Habitat Destruction tour. One of the giant pines around the lake fell over in a recent storm, directly on top of a giant red bud tree and a dogwood. It was my job to climb up in the tree with a chain saw and start chopping stuff down. This sucker is about 30-40 feed up in the air.

Here's Will up in the tree, getting ready to cut a limb off. (Hopefully not one of his own.)

Once we got most of the limbs cleaned off, along with the top 30 feet of the tree, we tied the tractor to the tree, and pulled the sucker out of the red bud tree.

Here's the tractor, just after we got the thing down. We actually cut everything off to the point where there was only one major branch left holding up the tree. Once we started pulling, it just flopped right over and out of the tree. Then the hard work started - cutting up all the wood and stacking it.

Dad, going to town on the giant tree. This sucker was pretty big...

The Rodeo, getting ready for action. The guys with the Isuzu group suggested that the campground could use some firewood.

Firewood... Huh - we've got some of that...

..And what chainsaw outing would be complete without some chainsaw art. I give you the TREE PIG!
